Private de-addiction centres to conduct free OPD and tests of addicts

LUDHIANA: Member parliament from Ludhiana, Ravneet Singh Bittu on Tuesday conducted a meeting with psychiatrists, owners and doctors of private de-addiction centres of the district. Others present in the meeting included MLA Sanjay Talwar, Civil surgeon Parvinder Pal Singh , district president of congress (rural) Gurdev Singh Lapran, councilor Parvinder Singh Lapran, Dr. Pammi Singh, Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Dr. AK Kala, Dr. Jagjot Singh, Dr. Amarpreet Singh Deol. Close to 25 representatives of the de-addiction centres and psychiatrists were present in the meeting who agreed to cooperate with state government in the ongoing anti-drug campaign by conducting the OPD and tests of the addicts free of cost. In addition to this the waiting hall for attendants of patients admitted in the civil hospital Ludhiana is being converted to a 40 bed drug de-addiction centre.Giving more information to mediapersons after the meeting with private de-addiction centre owners Bittu said, “The anti drugs campaign started by Punjab government has yielded magnificent results we have been able to bust the supply chain of drugs and this is the reason the drugs are not easily available anywhere in the state. This is also one of the reason for a large number of addicts coming forward for treatment to government and private hospitals and they are admitting themselves that they are not getting drugs anywhere now”Bittu also said, “We are thankful to the private psychiatrists, doctors and owners of private drug deaddiction centres of Ludhiana who today have agreed to cooperate in state government’s anti drugs campaign and they have decided that they will offer free services like OPD, tests and counseling for the drug addicts and also hold camps in various parts of the district to help eradicate drug menace”Bittu also informed that in order to tackle rush of addicts at civil hospital, Ludhiana a waiting hall for attendants at the hospital is being turned into a 40 bedded drug de-addiction centre by arranging financial help from NGOs and private individuals and this will be operational by this Saturday.MP also clarified that there is no ban on sale of the syringes without written prescription and it has also witnessed majority of the drug addicts coming forward for treatment in the state are suffering from diseases like AIDS, Hepatitis and are being treated free of cost in government.
