He added that the case’s transfer would ensure a fair trial in the case. “The state government will not touch SAD leader Bikram Majithia, while the City Centre case against Captain would be withdrawn. “As the state home department is with the CM, no public prosecutor will stand in court and speak against him. Sandhu, who made the claim in a petition filed in a court here, had also said that he feared he could be implicated in false police cases. “The former SSP’s petition has only confirmed our claim,” he said.

LUDHIANA: A day after a former police officer who probed the City Centre case involving CM Amarinder Singh alleged a threat to his life, Lok Insaf Party chief Simarjit Bains said on Wednesday that his party would write to the chief justices of the Supreme Court and the Punjab and Haryana high court with a plea to transfer the case out of the state.Bains lauded the “courage” of former Ludhiana SSP (vigilance) Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu. He added that the case’s transfer would ensure a fair trial in the case. Sandhu, who made the claim in a petition filed in a court here, had also said that he feared he could be implicated in false police cases. “As the state home department is with the CM, no public prosecutor will stand in court and speak against him. Also, the high court had on November 16, 2016, issued an order in favour of the developers of city who were affected by the scam,” he said, adding that the order made it clear that the developers would be paid Rs 12,000 crore along with interest.Bains said if the investigation report of the case was junked, the accused in the case would not have to pay the money and instead the government which would have to pay up. “We will take this matter to a logical end. We will even go to the Supreme Court to ensure the accused are punished,” he said.Bains, the MLA from Atam Nagar, said they had been talking about SAD patriarch Parkash Singh Badal and his family reaching a “settlement” with the CM. “The former SSP’s petition has only confirmed our claim,” he said. “The state government will not touch SAD leader Bikram Majithia, while the City Centre case against Captain would be withdrawn. Because of this, drug lords, especially those trading in chitta (smack and other white-coloured synthetic drugs), are roaming free and police are running after addicts,” he said.Bains claimed that his party would launch a protest if the state government filed a case against the former cop.
