PWD staff forms ‘Tree Lovers Group’

LUDHIANA: With a view to keep the city clean and green, officials of Public Works Department (Buildings & Roads division), Ludhiana branch, have formed a ‘Tree Lovers Group’ under Mission Tandrust Punjab, started by the Punjab government. In July so far, members of the Tree Lovers Group have already distributed more than 1,140 tree saplings.Group president Rakesh Garg and general secretary Amit Arora informed that the group was started with a mission to plant a tree a day, but with the help of other members, the number of tree saplings planted was increasing with each passing day. The main aim of the organization was to plant trees according to season throughout the year. This group is organizing tree plantation drives in several areas, and under one such drive, more than 300 tree saplings were distributed free of cost to city residents, who were also educated about the importance of trees in our lives.Besides this, the group is also coming up with a nursery at Barewal on Ferozepur Road here, where tree saplings would be prepared by the staff themselves, and distributed free to city residents.
