Mayor raises demand of Rs 200cr for devp works

LUDHIANA: In the wake of frequent demands raised by the residents and area councillors for various development works in the city, mayor Balkar Sandhu met Suresh Kumar, chief principal secretary to CM Captain Amarinder Singh , for release of Rs 200 crore for industrial town. Therefore I have raised the demand of Rs 200 crore for Ludhiana. Financial state of the Ludhiana municipal (MC) is now known to everyone. The councillors rued that they were facing public ire as no work was being done in their wards. Councillors claimed that the mayor was now avoiding the MC general house meeting as they were bound to raise the issue of funds in the meeting.Ever since the new MC house was formed, only one house meeting has been conducted in March end to discuss the MC annual budget.

The mayor reportedly sought the amount mentioning that the development in the city has come to a standstill.On August 15, the CM will unfurl national flag in a state-level function at Ludhiana and it is expected that he may meet the city industrialists prior to that to know about the problems being faced by them. The mayor demanded that the CM should announce something for the development of the city, which has come to complete standstill.While confirming the move, Sandhu said, “We need funds if we have carry out development works in the city. Therefore I have raised the demand of Rs 200 crore for Ludhiana. I am hopeful that CM will definitely announce something good for the city.” He said almost everyday, he listens to public grievances, where everybody complains about poor civic amenities. Financial state of the Ludhiana municipal (MC) is now known to everyone. We are left with no other option but to take help from the state government.”Recently, the mayor and MC commissioner K P Brar had conducted a meeting with Congress councillors where similar demand was raised. The councillors rued that they were facing public ire as no work was being done in their wards. Councillors claimed that the mayor was now avoiding the MC general house meeting as they were bound to raise the issue of funds in the meeting.Ever since the new MC house was formed, only one house meeting has been conducted in March end to discuss the MC annual budget.
