LUDHIANA: A city based architect and director of Ludhiana smart city limited (LSCL) Sanjay Goel has suggested some measures to reduce garbage problem in Buddha Nullah . While submitting his suggestions and demands to local bodies minister Navjot Sidhu, Mayor Balkar Singh and MC Commissioner KP Brar he has an elevated road over drain along with construction of roads on both sides of drain. He claimed it will help in reducing burden of vehicles from other major roads and when there will be vehicular traffic passing through this road then throwing of garbage will also reduce. The architect Goel said after discussing things with some of the architects from all across country he has prepared an image and design of elevated road over the drain. He said the government no doubt is planning to reduce the pollution problem inside the drain but there is requirement to pay attention towards requirements to reduce traffic burden from main roads and stretches alongside the drain can be utilized by commuters if drain should done channelized. Goel said if elevated road can be constructed over Ferozepur Road which is wide enough then it can also come over Buddha Nullah and when there will walls on both sides of the drain no space will left for throwing waste inside the drain. In his suggestions he has mentioned that maximum load of vehicles is on few major roads unlike Chandigarh and Delhi having multiple choices to go from one point to another. With increase in population, number of vehicles has also increased at an alarming rate whereas road infrastructure in Ludhiana city is very poor and traffic congestions are a routine everywhere. If concrete roads and elevated road come over Buddha Nullah then land prices will also increase alongside drain. The government must start laying sewerage system in the localities along Buddha Nullah. Industrial units including dyeing units and diary units must be fined heavily, if found polluting Buddha Nullah in future.Majority industrial units are discharging their polluted liquid waste illegally into drain. Neither people could stop discharging their liquid waste into drain nor could the government provide sewage disposal system and garbage disposal system in the localities along Buddha Nullah. The population of city has also increased 4 to 5 times during the past few decades. Due to mix land use and haphazard development, Ludhiana city is messed up and pollution of all types has reached the alarming point, mentioned the letter to local bodies minister, Mayor and MC Commissioner.Meanwhile when contacted the Mayor Balkar Sandhu he said, “I am yet to see the letter and read the suggestions but the government is already finding solution to curb pollution in Buddha Nullah and it will be done. They have plans to construct missing road links alongside the drain.”
