IB alert: Security up at Patiala station

The police are keeping a watch, especially on dustbins at railway stations, bogies of trains, taxies and autorickshaws standing outside railway stations across the state. Following this, the senior divisional security commissioner had paid a visit at the Patiala railway station and carried out an inspection to ensure if the metal detectors had been working properly. The checking drives in Patiala, Rajpura, Ludhiana and other districts have been intensified and special metal detectors have been installed at railway stations across the state. "We have received inputs from the IB, following which a high alert has been issued for Punjab. The alert has been issued across all railway stations and the gatemen at railway crossings have been given strict instructions to keep an eye on the surroundings.

PATIALA: Amid the ongoing controversy over the so-called Referendum 2020, the railway police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) have reinforced security arrangements at railway stations after receiving a special alert from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) on Independence Day.The RPF and the government railway police officials have intensified checking at the railway stations as well as in moving trains across the state. Patiala being the chief minister's hometown, the police are thoroughly scrutinizing the roads as well."We have received inputs from the IB, following which a high alert has been issued for Punjab. The checking drives in Patiala, Rajpura, Ludhiana and other districts have been intensified and special metal detectors have been installed at railway stations across the state. The alert has been issued across all railway stations and the gatemen at railway crossings have been given strict instructions to keep an eye on the surroundings. The checks are conducted every day, but with a special Independence Day alert for Punjab state has driven us to maintain round-the-clock vigil," said GRP AIG Daljit Singh Rana.Special metal detectors have been issued to GRP cops on duty to examine anyone and anything that appears suspicious at the railway stations, Rana added.Currently, around 1,400 cops of the government railway police are maintaining vigil across the state. There are around 12 police stations, 32 substations and 71 temporary substations in the state. Similarly, police officials under the RPF are also keeping a tab on the activities inside the trains and at railway stations.Sources revealed that the railways department in Patiala received information about the special alert two days ago.
