on Friday 6:30 9 am PATIALA: team of sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation ( CBI carried out raids at the Patiala and Ferozepur residences of Inspector General of Police (Ferozepur range), Gurwinder Singh Dhillon, in connection with a complaint filed by a former Senior Superintendent of Police Shiv Kumar Sharma, against whom the IG had recently ordered re-initiating of action in the 2009 Patwari harassment case.The team of CBI descended on the Patiala and Ferozepur residences of the IG late in the night and stayed there tillin the morning, after which the sleuths met the officer at his office in Ferozepur at aroundand posed him a few questions.It is to be mentioned that former SSP Shiv Kumar Sharma, against whom Dhillon had ordered re-initiation of action and is also conducted the pending inquiry in the infamous patwari harassment case, had recently filed a complaint against the IG alleging large-scale corruption, following which the raids were carried out.Confirming the development, Dhillon said it was the last attempt by Shiv Kumar Sharma to override the investigations against him as he had been trying to pressurise the investigating team to drop the case. He said cops had core material evidence against the former SSP, who is facing charges under Sections under Sections 377, 511, 211, 295-A, 120 B in the 2012 FIR that was registered against him against three other SSPs on orders of the then chief minister Prakash Singh Badal.While the CBI has so far not issued a formal statement regarding the raids, Dhillon said he was unaware about the contents of the complaint as no copy had been provided to him. He said the agency asked him certain questions to which he gave his replies, after which the team left.It was after a detailed inquiry conducted by an Dhillon that the state police had re-initiated action in a 2012 FIR registered against four superintendents of the police along with two others for torturing a patwari (revenue official) by registering a false case against him in 2009 as he had asked for government Rs 20 from Shiv Kumar Sharma to furnishing details of his land records.Fresh charges were also added to the FIR registered against the four SSPs including Shiv Kumar Sharma, Surinderpal Singh Virk, Jaspal Singh and SS Grewal, who were given a clean chit by the state police in 2013.The action had come after the complainant Patwari Mohan Singh Bhedpur had move a plea before the new government in Punjab to re-investigate the matter as the department had given these cops a clean chit.As per the complainant, he had been picked up by the cops at the behest of SSP Sharma and tortured in police custody as he had demanded a government fee of Rs 20 from Sharma for providing him with the land records of his property in Rurki village in Fatehgarh Sahib.
