LUDHIANA: The Special Task Force of Ludhiana Unit have arrested three drug peddlers including a woman with 1kg heroin worth Rs 5 crore in international market and Rs 32,000 drug money, on Friday. The accused belonged to same village, Talwandi Kalan.The arrested accused are Ranjeet Singh, 28, his cousin Amandeep Kaur , 27, and his friend Harchand Lal, 40. According to police, Ranjeet is the gang leader who started drug peddling at the age of 17 years. Later his friend Harchand and his cousin Amandeep also joined them to earn easy money.Importantly Talwandi Kalan is one of the infamous villages for drug peddling.The incharge at STF- Ludhiana Unit sub Inspector Harbans Singh said that the accused were arrested at a checkpoint established near village Fatehpur Gujjran, on GT road. The accused, in a Maruti Suzuki Celareio car, was crossing from there when they were stopped at checkpoint. On further frisking, the police recovered contraband and Rs 32,000 drug money from their possession.Further SI told that the main accused Ranjeet has been drug peddling since his teenage. Ranjeet was first booked in NDPS case in 2007.Official added, further his accomplice Harchand Lala started drug peddling around 4 years ago. He is also facing trials in two illegal mining cases. He started drug peddling for easy money."The woman, Amandeep Kaur is married and is into tailoring. Her husband is a labourer and earns very less. Couple of months ago Amandeep developed illicit relation with Harchand Lal and after that she also started drug peddling" added SI Harbans Singh.The accused have confessed that they used to procure the contraband from smugglers based in Delhi and village Ganna, in Phillaur and then would sell to their customers in Ludhiana.
