Vertical garden comes up outside CP office, Police stations to follow suit

LUDHIANA: Taking forward its green initiative, the Income Tax department, Ludhiana, in association with the police commissionerate has formed a vertical garden outside office of the commissioner of police (CP). “We initiated the green plastic initiative last year in July. The vertical garden was jointly inaugurated by IT chief commissioner Binay K Jha and commissioner of police Sukhchain Singh Gill, along with senior officials of both departments and representatives of Police-Public Foundation and Confederation of Indian industry (CII). Also vertical garden along with being easy to install does away with the need of huge space requirement,” he said.Later Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “The garden would not only make buildings beautiful but also help increasing green cover in the city. The idea was to make Ludhiana cleaner and greener by utilising, hazardous plastic waste to grow plants that too at a minimal cost.

This vertical garden has been made using close to 200 plastic bottles and equal number of plants of different varieties.Soon after the inaguration, officials involved with the initiative informed that vertical gardens would be developed on similar lines in the police stations all over the city.Speaking on the occasion, Jha thanked city police commissioner and others involved with the initiative for being part of the drive, that he said was set to bring a positive change in the city. “We initiated the green plastic initiative last year in July. Also vertical garden along with being easy to install does away with the need of huge space requirement,” he said.Later Sukhchain Singh Gill said, “The garden would not only make buildings beautiful but also help increasing green cover in the city. If more such vertical gardens are installed in the city the air would be much cleaner and would give a relief to the residents by increasing oxygen levels.” Gill also lauded the efforts of IT department for coming up with the ‘unique initiative’.Prominent businessmen Neeraj Satija (convener CII Punjab), SC Ralhan, SS Bhogal, Samira Bector and officials including Principal Commissioners of income tax Avdesh Mishra and R Bhama, DCP Ashwani Kapoor, Additional commissioner of income tax Rohit Mehra, Joint Commissioner of income tax Manav Bansal, ADCP Deepak Parekh, ACP Sartaj Singh Chahal were also present.
