While Rohit was admitted to Aman Hospital near Saggu Chownk, Hargurjeet was rushed to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital. Rohit has reportedly suffered a major injury on right wrist and stitches near his eyes and was relieved by the evening. Hargurjeet, on the other hand, has suffered major injuries on his face and is still hospitalised. Warden Ravinderpal Singh, entomologist of PAU, was apprised of the situation. The continuous accidents in the varsity has raised a question of safety among students and they have started agitating against the the ban on four-wheelers in the campus. Students unanimously said there is no point in banning four-wheeler as they are not safe on two-wheelers.Students who used to bring cars said, “Even our parents approached the vice-chancellor of PAU and GADVASU via mails but they did not get any reply. Our parents are not comfortable with us riding via two-wheelers now a days. Other NRI students have also sent e-mails to the vice-chancellor but all in vain.”Prabhmeet Kaur, a student of MSc biotechnology, PAU, said, “Recently, I suffered from an accident inside PAU premises on an Activa. I used to come by car but after the banning of cars inside the PAU campus, I had to come by my two-wheeler.”Sukhneet Kaur, another student said, “After the banning of four- wheelers on PAU campus, I personally faced a lot of problems. It is very difficult to a ride two-wheeler in rainy season and it is unsafe too. The parking space is also not properly developed. The bus facility is useless because it is never available at the time we need it.”The ban on four-wheelers has manifested in other incidents too. After an accident on Wednesday, the victim was accused of not wearing a helmet while riding on a two-wheeler. This sparked another controversy of the increase in two-wheelers in the campus after the ban on four-wheelers without mandating wearing of helmets as traffic norms. It was added that a ban on four-wheelers in the campus have also led to students tripling on one two-wheeler. Gurpreet Singh, who is pursuing masters in farm power machinery, said , “This is a campus where students can roam freely. This is not a national highway. We use two-wheelers to hop from one department to another. I don’t find any harm in triple riding.”Another student Ritual Jyani who is pursuing B Tech Agri Engineering and hails from Chandigarh, said, “It is better for safety if one wears helmets while riding a two-wheeler. As far as triple riding is concerned, there is no rule to penalise students for doing so.”Highlighting a recent accident, where a four- wheeler rammed into a pedestrian, he said, “Now this doesn’t mean that a pedestrian should start wearing a helmet.”
