Campaigning for panchayat elections comes to an end

BATHINDA: Leaders of various political parties campaigned for their respective candidates for zila parishad and panchayat samiti elections till the time for canvassing came to an end on Monday evening. “SAD, which was claiming to rule for 25 years non-stop, failed to win even 25 seats in the 2017 assembly elections,” he said. Elections are to be held for 22 zila parishad and 150 panchayat samitis on Wednesday.Finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal, power minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar , Gidderbaha MLA Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon, ex-MLA Kewal Singh Dhillon campaigned in Bhucho, Bathinda Rural, Mansa, Muktsar, Faridkot and Barnala areas. On other hand, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders Sikander Singh Maluka, Muktsar MLAKanwarjit SinghBarkandi and Hardeep Singh Dhillon were also activeup tillthedeadline.Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Barnala Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Talwandi Sabo MLA Baljinder Kaur and Bathinda Rural MLA Rupinder Kaur Ruby campaigned in Barnala, Talwandi Sabo and Bathinda areas. So far in the run-up to the elections, a clash was witnessed in Dharamkot area of Moga where some persons had sustained injuries, while SAD MLA Parminder Singh Dhindsa and former Congress MLA Joginder Singh Panjgraian had to face wrath of people in Barnala villages when they had gone to campaign for their candidates.While campaigning in Mansa area, Manpreet said Congress would sweep the panchayati raj institution (PRI) elections as people were angry with Akali Dal and AAP.
