Ludhiana: As many as eight women’s and girls’ teams took part in the 13th Senior District Baseball Championship, whose matches kicked off at Guru Nanak Khalsa College for Women here on Saturday. The first match of the tournament was played between GN Khalsa College for Women and Kasabaad Baseball Club, in which Khalsa College convincingly defeated Kasabaad Club (5-2), and entered into the next round of matches.In the second match, BCM Focal Point crushed Shahi Sports Club convincingly (3-0), and in the third match, Government Girls Senior Secondary School defeated Khalsa Baseball Club (3-1) to secure their place in the next round of matches. In the fourth match, Guru Nanak Baseball Club overpowered Shahi Sports College with a big margin (8-3).In the first semi-final match, Government Senior Secondary School for Girls defeated BCM Focal Point in a low-scoring match (2-0), and entered the final of the championship. In the second semi-final match, GN Khalsa College for Women, Model Town, beat Guru Nanak Baseball Club (5-0) to lock horns with Government Girls Senior Secondary School in the final of the championship.Harbir Singh Gill, member of Punjab Baseball Association, stated: “On Sunday, GN Khalsa College for Women (KCW), Model Town, will compete with Government Girls Senior Secondary School (GGSSS), Gill village, in the final match of the tournament. Around 60 to 70 baseball enthusiasts across the district featured in the state sub-junior championship matches. Some among them will be selected for the forthcoming national baseball championship to be held in first week of November.”The final match of the tournament will be played on Sunday, October 7.
