LUDHIANA: United Cycle and Parts Manufacturers Association (UCPMA) on Thursday organized a meeting at a city hotel. The agenda of the meeting was to discuss the next course of action in the case of non payment of more than Rs. 30 crores by one of the leading cycle manufacturing company who has factories at Sonipat and Malanpur . During the meeting it was decided that the industrialists will start series of protest against the company and first protest will be staged on Saturday in which effigies of the owners will be burnt.According to Inderjit Singh Navyug, president of UCPMA , “This company has committed a big fraud with the small businessmen by usurping their hard earned money. Payments amounting to more than Rs. 30 crores of several factory owners of Ludhiana are pending from 3-4 years against the material supplied to the Sonipat and Malanpur units of the company and regardless of so many reminders the company did not even pay back a single penny to the businessmen. UCPMA conducted several meetings with the company officials to convince them to make the payments and every time they made false assurances and our last meeting was conducted with the board of directors who gave deadline of September 24th for making the payment and again promise was unfulfilled. All these circumstances have led us to take this decision of protesting against the company”.According to Charanjit Singh Vishivkarma, former president of UCPMA said, “All our efforts to get back the crores of rupees of the small industrialists have failed and we are left with no other option than to protest against this fraud which was played by this company with us. We have already got support of other business organisations of the city who have committed that their members too will join this protest which we will conduct on Saturday outside UCPMA office, Gill Road. In case the company officials do not wake up we will approach police commissioner Ludhiana and get FIR of fraud registered against the company”.
