Power cost rises again in Punjab as PSPCL hikes FCA surcharge

The surcharge was to be levied during second quarter of the current fiscal.In a petition filed in June, PSPCL had sought increase in FCA surcharge. Earlier, PSPCL was charging 8 paisa per unit.The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commissione (PSERC) had in July this year allowed the corporation to recover a sum of Rs 146.35 crore on account of increase in FCA surcharge for power generation. PATIALA: With the regulator approving hike in fuel cost adjustment (FCA) surcharge, board of directors of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has decided to levy increased surcharge that has led to a slight increase in cost of power in the state.The power corporation has notified the September 20 decision taken by the board of directors in which FCA surcharge had been revised at 12 paisa /unit for both metered and unmetered connections. It had stated that the coal price and rail freight had led to increase in variable cost of power purchase during the last quarter of FY 2017-18.Further, in case of Nabha Power Limited, Rajpura, additional payments against washing charges were also made as per the orders of the Supreme Court that led to a further increase in fuel costs.While the PSPCL had worked out total FCA amount chargeable at Rs 160.31 crore, PSERC had allowed recovery of Rs 146.35 crore on account of increase in fuel cost subject to reconciliation or validation during FY 2017-18.
