PATIALA: The Rajpura City police station has received a complaint from a 16-yearold girl who has alleged an adult resident who hails from Rajpura has been raping her for last two years.The accused had promised to marry the girl , but started to ignore her since the last few months, sources said.While speaking to TOI, a family member of the girl said, “The accused is our neighbour who lives 8-10 houses away. Earlier, we had given two complaints against the accused — one for stalking and for threatening, as he used to follow her while on the way to school and back home. Four days ago, the elder brother of the accused had also visited our house to threaten us of dire consequences if we did not withdraw our complaints. Yesterday, one of the known women to the accused had also visited our house to offer money to compromise the matter. Yesterday, the girl received a phone call on our mobile from the cops and then she had left on her scooter for the police station. Since then, the minor is not in touch with her family. She has been sent to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar .” The survivor’s parents are now demanding to hang the accused if proven guilty.Station house officer, inspector Gurcharan Singh said, “On the complaint of the minor girl we have registered a case against the accused under Section 376 (punishment for rape) and Section 3 (penetrative sexual assault) and 4 (punishment for penetrative sexual assault) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The accused is absconding and our teams are on a lookout to arrest him. The medical examination and the statements of the girl have been recorded under Section 164 of the Code of the Criminal Procedure. The girl has been sent to Nari Niketan in Jalandhar where she will remain under safe custody."
