Key conspirator, contract killers in two-day remand

LUDHIANA: A local court on Monday sent the key conspirator and two contract killers to two-day police remand in the architect murder case.Balwinder Singh, who had allegedly given a contract to kill 32-year-old Mandeep Bansal, was arrested from Gill Road on Sunday evening.Bansal, a resident of Dhandra Road, was shot dead in Dugri Phase-I on October 11. Later that day, the police had booked Singh after Bansal's family accused him of the murder. He was visiting a construction site when a man on a motorcycle pumped four bullets into him around 10am. He had been roaming around in the city after Mandeep's murder." He told that Bansal would often come to his locality and had intimidated him, too.

The family said Bansal allegedly had illicit relations with Singh's wife.Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Surinder Lamba said, "During interrogation, Singh revealed that he was stressed over his wife affair with Bansal. He told that Bansal would often come to his locality and had intimidated him, too."On October 12, the police had arrested the two contract killers - Gurwinder Singh, 27, of Aman Nagar and his accomplice Amanpal of New Aman Nagar.Sources said cops were likely to question Gurwinder's neighbour Ashwani, as he had sublet his licensed weapon to the former's uncle for Rs 1 lakh. "Gurwinder had stolen the weapon from his uncle and used it to commit the crime," they added.Dugri police station SHO inspector Rajesh Thakur said, "On a tip-off, Singh - an auto-parts businessman and resident of New Aman Nagar - was arrested from Gill Road while he was waiting for a bus to escape from Ludhiana. He had been roaming around in the city after Mandeep's murder."
