Kurukshetra University: Poll process in full swing

KURUKSHETRA: As per the election committee of the Kurukshetra University (KU), the election process is in full swing and they are all prepared for conducting the indirect elections on Wednesday. On the same day, the elected CRs will elect the KU Campus Students Executive Council (KUCSEC) among themselves. So far about 100 students are in the race for the remaining 40 CR seats and elections for these CRs will be conducted on Wednesday. After the results, a ‘KUCSEC’ will be formed and the members will be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Joint Secretary and five members of the University Executive Council. We are all prepared for conducting the elections and with the help of district administration, all the arrangements related to security and maintaining law and order are made sufficient in the university campus.”“The whole process of the elections will be completed in a single day.

There are total 224 seats of the class representatives (CR) which will be selected from 48 different departments of the university.The KU Election Commissioner Prof NN Dogra said, "Total 103 seats of CR have been elected unopposed, in the absence of any candidates on 81 student constituencies, toppers may be nominated by the concerned departments as CR and the elections will be conducted for remaining 40 seats. We are all prepared for conducting the elections and with the help of district administration, all the arrangements related to security and maintaining law and order are made sufficient in the university campus.”“The whole process of the elections will be completed in a single day. A nine-member students’ council will be formed in the university”, said Dogra.As per the provided information, now only unopposed 103 CRs plus yet to be elected 40 CRs, in total 143 CRs will only be voting for the KUCSEC and remaining 81 which are to be nominated by the departments cannot vote in for the council.On the other side, the ABVP has also shown their strength in the campus with three more students’ bodies including Sardar Patel Students Organisation (SPSO), Maharana Pratap Students Association (MPSA) and Hindustan Students Association (HAS) coming in their support.The parties including the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO), National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Dr Ambedkar Students Front of India (DASFI), Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Ambedkar Students Welfare Association (ASWA) and some more students’ bodies from Kurukshetra University are still opposing the indirect elections as they staged a peaceful protest opposite library and they are jointly organising awareness campaign and visiting every class to ask the students not to participate in the elections.As per the sources, nearly 70 per cent of the students have already left from hostels and university campus to their home suspecting violence on the campus and also the presence of the students in the classrooms was also seen very less.These elections are being conducted after 22 years in Haryana
