ED files case in Rs 1,000 cr irrigation scam

1000 crores irrigation scam which took place between 2010-16.ED lodged the case following instructions from joint director Girish Bali. LUDHIANA: Jalandhar based zonal office of Enforcement directorate (ED) has registered a case against influential government contractor Gurinder Singh and several serving and retired government officers involved in the Rs. Sources also claimed that the officers of the irrigation department had allotted contracts to Gurinder Singh at rates 10-50 percent higher as compared to departmental rates and Gurinder Singh has acquired a lot of immovable properties with the money obtained through these illegal means.Earlier FIR number 10 dating August 17, 2017 was lodged with the vigilance bureau, flying Squad Mohali against Gurinder Singh and others and challans dating February 9, 2018 and March 16, 2018 were filed by the vigilance bureau Mohali in the FIR. The case was registered under provisions of Money Laundering Act 2002, IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act,1988 for causing loss to the state exchequer in the irrigation projects of government of Punjab.According to sources in the department, Gurinder Singh, in connivance with the officers of irrigation department, caused loss of crores of rupees to the Punjab government by twisting rules and regulations and not adhering to the prescribed procedures of e-tendering by making tailor made terms and conditions for e-tendering to benefit himself, by clubbing minor works to make them major works, leaking official secrets in the development works.
