Carjacking: Robbers booked cab from stolen phone

LUDHIANA: The robbers who carjacked Ola driver on Monday used a stolen mobile phone to book the cab about half an hour before the incident. The accused had first booked the cab and called the driver to an isolated location. Cops investigating the case said after carjacking , the accused fled towards the city area on Pakhowal road.Assistant commissioner of police (south) Ramandeep Singh Bhullar said, “After executing the crime, the robbers switched off the mobile phone. They had snatched the phone from a man in Dugri. We are in touch with the police in the adjoining districts, but have not got any specific clues in the matter.

But, we suspect the involvement of car snatching gangs from Moga and Ferozepur behind the incident.”Cops are scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed under the ‘Safe City’ project to trace the duo.On October 10, three assailants had carjacked a cab driver at gunpoint after thrashing him near a resort at Daad village. The accused had first booked the cab and called the driver to an isolated location. They had thrashed the driver with a baseball bat, brandished a gun and then escaped with the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.Meanwhile, concerned over the safety of cab drivers, cops will soon hold a security review meeting with the representatives of Ola, Uber and other cab service providers in the city.
