Ludhiana: MC officials sealed a lab of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) adjoining the hospital premises on Tuesday afternoon — as it was located in a residential area — but in the evening after four hours, they opened the seal. Officials claimed they had done so as the samples of patients were inside the lab, and the hospital authorities too had given an undertaking to get the lab regularized. But sources revealed that officials had opened the seal under political pressure. The lab was established in a residential area without getting permission for a change of land use (CLU). Moreover, CLU is not allowed in the area, as it is a fully residential scheme. MC commissioner KP Brar said: “We have got an undertaking from the hospital authorities, and a personal assurance of depositing the due fee/fine, so we opened the lab. Moreover, it is a facility for patients.”Notably, already a complaint was filed by RTI activist Rohit Sabharwal about two months ago that hospital authorities had annexed adjoining residential plots and included them in the hospital area, a commercial zone. MC had also served notices to the hospital around that time.
