Auto gang loot case: Cops take 21 days to lodge FIR

Ludhiana: Twenty-one days after a man allegedly lost gold jewellery worth Rs 6 lakh to an auto-rickshaw gang, the division number 6 police have finally registered a case.The incident occurred in the evening of October 22.Whereas police claimed that the complainant did not share enough information in the case, the victim said he had visited the police station five times in 20 days and was even unaware that cops have not lodged an FIR on his complaint.In his complaint, Surinder Kumar, 29, a factory worker of Bhagwan Chowk, Janta Nagar, said he along with his wife had gone to Pathankot to attend a marriage. On October 22, they reached Ludhiana railway station at 6.30pm. They hired an auto for their house.“We had booked the entire auto. We had three bags with us, out of which one contained my wife’s gold jewelry. The auto driver and his accomplice sitting in the front We had kept the bags near our feet. Meanwhile, three men got into the auto near Jagroan bridge. Further near Vishkarma chowk, the auto driver pretended that there is some technical snag in the auto and he cannot take us to the destination. Therefore, he dropped us ahead of Gill Chowk. He said there were two gold necklaces and one gold ring worth Rs 6 lakh in the bag.He alleged, “The passengers who sat in the auto were accomplices of the auto driver. They had seen one of them touching the bag while pretending that something is pinching them. We did not know when he unlocked the bag and stole jewellery. I and my wife were planning to get a loan on that jewelry to construct a room.”Inspector Jaswinder Singh, SHO, said, “The victim did not share sufficient information that is why we had to call him for a couple of times. We lodged an FIR on Monday.”However, Surinder Kumar said, “I am the victim, why would I not share entire information with the cops. In fact, I kept visiting the police station to know the status of my complaint. They also took me to the control room of the safe city and took my statements a number of times, but I was unaware that they have not registered a case."The Division number 6 police have registered a case under Section 379 (Punishment for theft) and 34 (act done by several persons in furtherance of common intension) of IPC.Box: Previous incidentsNov 8 | Auto gang targeted trader Ajit Singh of Dugri and escaped with Rs 2 lakh. The man came to know about it when he alighted from the auto.Oct 27 | Inder Singh, 67, of West Mumbai who is into the business of artificial jewellery, boarded an auto from Rekhi Chowk to Sherpur Chowk while carrying a cash of Rs 9.5 lakh. However, the accused dropped him in midway and escaped with cash.
