LUDHIANA: Flying into a rage over alleged dog fight in front of his house, an ex-serviceman pumped two bullets into an adopted dog at Bhutta village, killing the canine on the spot.The incident occurred on Wednesday evening when the dog, Bholu, was accompanying his master and owner of brick-kilns.Ludhiana police have booked the ex-service man, identified as Satpal Singh, 42.On Thursday, dog’s autopsy was conducted and later it was buried in a field belonging to his owner Tarlochan Singh.In his compliant, Tarlochan’s son Avtar Singh Mand, a lyricist, claimed that 7-year-old Bholu had been with them for the past many years and had become a part of the family.He said Bholu used was stay calm and accompany his father, a farmer and owner of brick-kilns, whenever he used to go out.“On Wednesday evening, my father was going to our brick-kiln, located 1.5 km away from our house. Bholu was accompanying him as usual. Meanwhile, my father reached the kiln , but Bholu went towards stray dogs, near the house of Satpal. We don’t know exactly what happened, but villagers told my father that the accused has shot Bholu dead,” he alleged.Avtar said those who witnessed the incident said Bholu went towards a group of stray dogs. When Satpal came out with his gun, other stray dogs escaped. But, the accused fired at Bholu twice.Inspector Kulwant Singh, SHO, Dehlon police station, said the accused is an ex-serviceman and has a .12 bore gun. According to eyewitnesses, some dogs were barking at Satpal Singh which made him angry and he opened fire in rage.The official further said the accused had gone absconding following the incident. Satpal has been booked under Sections of 11(1)(L) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc., of any value or any animal of the value of fifty rupees) of IPC and Arms Act.
