Nod for lie detector test on accused in Yamunanagar gang rape case

As per the FIR, the woman was married on September 12 and the rapes happened till September 15.Her family members alleged, “Yamunanagar police are not acting promptly. All the accused named in the FIR have been identified and we have also recorded their statements. No arrest has been made for more than one and a half months despite the accused having been identified. The rape survivor alleged she was drugged on the night of the wedding and raped by her two brothers-in-law and four occultists (tantriks).

YAMUNANAGAR: Police have received permission to conduct a lie detector test on the accused in the case of gangrape of a newly-wed woman in Yamunanagar Investigation officer (IO) Sheelawanti said all the accused named in the first information report (FIR) would take the test before they make any arrests.IO Sheelawanti said, “We do not want anyone to be implicated falsely in the case. Therefore, the procedure of investigation is taking time. All the accused named in the FIR have been identified and we have also recorded their statements. Further action in the case will be taken as per the report of the lie-detector test.”A zero FIR was registered by the Kurukshetra Police on September 26 on the complaint of the survivor’s family members. The case was transferred to Yamunanagar police as the crime took place in a village of the district.On September 27, the Yamunanagar women police station registered a case against six accused under sections 376D ( gang rape ) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code . The rape survivor alleged she was drugged on the night of the wedding and raped by her two brothers-in-law and four occultists (tantriks). She said she was raped for two days.It was also alleged that she was not kept with her husband and her in-laws had called some tantriks to treat her “mental condition”. As per the FIR, the woman was married on September 12 and the rapes happened till September 15.Her family members alleged, “Yamunanagar police are not acting promptly. No arrest has been made for more than one and a half months despite the accused having been identified. Also, family members of the accused are trying to solve the matter through panchayats. A panchayat will take place in the village on the coming Thursday.”
