Undertrial died at Nabha maximum security jail

PATIALA: An undertrial lodged in a high-security Nabha jail in a case of Unlawful activities died in mysterious circumstances on Sunday late evening. The jail officials claimed that Sukhpreet suffered some kind of seizures and fainted, following which he was rushed to a government hospital in Nabha. A baptized Sikh, he was brought to the high security jail in June 2017, after he was nabbed by the Mohali police. "Sukhpreet died after he had fits but the postmortem report is yet to be received. He was in the open ground area of the jail in the evening.

The jail authorities said that the deceased identified as Sukhpreet Singh, 24, was booked in May 2017, under sections 18, 19 and 20 of Unlawful activities and under sections of Arms Act.The police claimed that Sukhpreet was a member of Babbar Khalsa . A baptized Sikh, he was brought to the high security jail in June 2017, after he was nabbed by the Mohali police. The jail officials claimed that Sukhpreet suffered some kind of seizures and fainted, following which he was rushed to a government hospital in Nabha. He could not be saved, they added.It is learned that name of Sukhpreet had appeared in unlawful activities case registered by Mohali police a few days after five persons were arrested along with some weapons for allegedly planning a conspiracy to commit major crime."Sukhpreet died after he had fits but the postmortem report is yet to be received. He was in the open ground area of the jail in the evening. He was about to return to his barrack when suddenly he fell down. We immediately rushed him to civil hospital but he could not be saved despite doctors efforts," said jail superintendent Iqbal Singh Brar.Brar added that Sukhpreet was also booked under section 379-B of IPC at City Gurdaspur police station in 2016, for snatching a mobile phone from a person.However, requesting anonymity, doctors at the government civil hospital in Nabha claimed that Sukhpreet was brought dead to them. A doctor claimed that post mortem of the deceased was conducted but the reports were awaited.
