Gang conducting sex determination tests in vehicle busted

FEROZEPUR: Police, on Tuesday, busted a gang conducting illegal sex determination tests in a private vehicle using a portable ultrasound machine. The DSP said the gang members operated in Rajasthan , Haryana and Punjab, where they lured married couples desperate for a male child. Besides the ultrasound machine, he said, police recovered an SUV and over Rs 77,000 from him. The gang members reportedly charged a fee of Rs 30,000 for the test.On her information, police raided the house, seized the ultrasound machine and arrested Avneet Singh, a resident of Moga. They also conducted illegal abortions of female foetuses for a hefty fee.The DSP said a case has been registered against Avneet Singh, a resident of Moga.

Police seized the ultrasound machine and the vehicle after raiding the place in Zira where gang members were conducting sex determination tests.Acting on the complaint of civil surgeon, Ferozepur Surinder Kumar, about a gang conducting sex determination tests in Gogoyani locality near gurdwara Singh Sabha in Zira, a police team raided the house of one Mangal Dass, where a number of pregnant women had come to undergo the test.When contacted, DSP, Zira Narinder Singh said a pregnant woman was sent as decoy customer as part of the joint operation conducted by the local police and health department. The gang members reportedly charged a fee of Rs 30,000 for the test.On her information, police raided the house, seized the ultrasound machine and arrested Avneet Singh, a resident of Moga. Besides the ultrasound machine, he said, police recovered an SUV and over Rs 77,000 from him. “The gang has a very wide network spreading across Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan where they used to provide test service with subsequent termination of pregnancy,” he said.A case has been registered under Sections 420 and 120-B of the IPC and PNDT Act against Avneet Singh and some unidentified persons.
