JALANDHAR: Four months before Parliamentary elections, the panthic political space is turbulent over lifting of the Bargari Morcha and differences between its leaders, whose popularity has been adversely affected. The protest had become a rallying point for panthic groups, leaders and sentiments. However, the position of SAD in panthic circles is the same as it was just after assembly election results were announced in 2017. This, despite its recent three-day forgiveness-seeking act in Darbar Sahib . Also, the party is facing demands to own up its mistakes. Questions are also being raised on the method adopted to seek forgiveness in Akal Takht . A few senior Akali leaders parted ways over political and religious decisions and actions taken during the SAD regime.Earlier, it was mostly SAD leaders expressing dissent with the leadership of the Bargari morcha. But after the morcha was lifted from Bargari Dana Mandi on Sunday, several Sikh netizens expressed their displeasure. This was so especially after parallel jathedar Baljit Singh Daduwal openly aired his views against the decision. He alleged that parallel Akal Takht acting jathedar Dhian Singh Mand took the decision on his own and said he had announced that only the first phase of the morcha was over and he would announce the remaining programme in a few days.Sikh intellectuals have also criticized developments. “Abrupt lifting of the morcha after 192 days has pushed the Sikh community deep into despair,” said Sikh intellectuals during a meeting of Sikh Vichaar Manch in Chandigarh on Thursday.“Bargari was not allowed to be the hub of politics to oppose the hegemonic centralized politics being practiced by political parties. The events were reminiscent of the Sarbat Khalsa held in Chabba village on November 10, 2015, which ended up defusing the pressure on the Badal government and has now provided an escape to the Captain Amarinder Singh government. The state Congress government is, in any case, adopting a half-hearted approach to punish those guilty of sacrilege,” said a statement issued by the Manch. A call to identify those who have cheated the community was also made.
