The event witnessed 45 exotic cows from various places in the state and Haryana Talking to The Times of India, an elated dairy farmer Baldev Singh of Galib Kheri in Karnal said all the three cows belong to Holstein Friesian (HF) breed. "Last year too, one of my cows had won the first prize in the beauty contest. It is a great achievement to bag all three prizes. We haven't named the cows, but one of the winners is five years old and gives around 55 kilolitres of milk. We take best care of the cows and have a dedicated team for them," said Baldev, who has 60 cows.Cattle attendant Anmol Singh said apart from maintaining healthy environment around the cows, they wash the animals with shampoo every day and once a month their hair is trimmed. "The cow that won the first prize this time had participated in the contest last year as well and had won the third prize. It is an honour for all of us that our cows have won all the three positions," said Anmol.The organizers said the contest aims to create awareness among the dairy farmers about the upkeep of cows. Progressive Dairy Farmers' Association president Daljit Singh Sadarpura said, "It ensures that farmers, who own international breeds, get an idea of how to take care of them. The HF breed had first prize of Rs 50,000, second prize of Rs 40,000 and third prize of Rs 30,000. The value of cows in the top 10 goes up and can be priced between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 5 lakh or even more. Four judges, two each from the United States and Canada, judged the event."Canadian cattle experts, Paul Greaves and Michel Hall, said they have a true type model of beauty for cows in their mind and they used it to compare the animals. "True type model includes body structure, mammary system, dairy strength and texture of animal's body. In case of cows, we give more marks to intermediate size of the animal and teats of about six to seven centimeters," said Greaves.The organizers said that they have 20 contests, including those evaluating beauty, milk yield and breed, among others, for buffaloes and cows. They added that the beauty contest in the Jersey category was won by the cow of Gurmeet Singh Rhode of Moga.
