PATIALA: In a move to provide relief to city residents, MC is all set to shift dairies out of the city. The tenders for the dairy shifting project has been floated and the corporation will soon begin the construction work at Ablowal village for the project that was recently approved by the state government.The officials claimed that the tendering process of the project has been initiated and tenders were floated soon the dairies will be shifted out of the city limits. The project worth Rs 13 crore will bring all the dairy animals from the city under one roof. Around 150 plots in the first phase are proposed to be constructed and allotted to the residents. There are around 129 large dairies with each consisting of over 10 dairy animals and around 100 small dairies each consisting of three to five animals.With basic facilities including sewerage treatment plant and a veterinary hospital, these plots will be provided at a minimal cost. The Change of Land Use (CLU) for the total of 21 acres land for the project has been given by the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA).The civic body had invited tenders only a few days ago however, there are no takers yet. The tenders will be allotted in the last week of January. The officials revealed that as the project cost Rs 13 crore the complete file will be sent to Chandigarh head office on Friday and get the grant released for the project. Earlier the civic body had sent a detailed project report (DPR) to higher officials in Chandigarh to get the nod for the project.The project could have been finalised and given nod months ago but it failed to take off as the officials of the corporation forgot to add the project in the master plan of Patiala A total of 1500 dairy animals will be shifted to Ablowal village where the plots will be allotted. The tendering process has been initiated as tenders are invited. The project has already been discussed in the Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) meeting while again on Friday some more points regarding the project will be discussed. The price for the land will also be fixed soon and announced so that people can plan and purchase it accordingly”, said, deputy mayor Y S Yogi.He added that the city residents will get a big sigh of relief as they face problems over the existence of dairies in the city precincts. He said that the choking of sewers and water logging in numerous parts of the city is common as the cattle dung is regularly dumped in the city’s seasonal rivulets.
