Teachers forcibly remove barricades near Punjab CM's residence in Patiala

PATIALA: During their protest over non-payment of salaries for the last eight months, teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyhan on Sunday broke barricades erected near chief minister Amarinder Singh 's private residence.Even as cops, manning the barricades near the YPS chowk, tried to thwart attempts being made by the protesters, they managed to push barricades and reach near New Mot Bagh Palace. Teachers lamented being victimised by the state government and raised slogans against education minister O P Soni for not regularising their jobs.Teachers rued they could not celebrate the Lohri as the government had failed to release their salaries. They alleged that their salaries were stopped as they had refused to succumb to the pressure built by the government to accept regular jobs at reduced salaries.Later, a government representative held a half-an-hour meeting with the teachers and assured them a meeting with the CM on Monday.
