LUDHIANA: A day after TOI highlighted the issue of deteriorating condition of the hi-tech sports parks in Mullanpur-Dakha, Member Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Bittu has stepped in and announced Rs 10 lakh for maintainace of these parks which were built by former Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MLA Manpreet Ayali and these were projected as the model of development by SAD in the last assembly elections. In latest development the residents of constituency had claimed that the a large number of these sports parks were ignored by the HS Phoolka (who was elected as MLA in 2017 elections from this constituency but he resigned from assembly recently)Meanwhile Bittu visited the constituency to see the condition of these parks himself. After meeting the locals and seeing the condition of the parks himself Bittu announced a grant of Rs. 10 lakh for the replacement of broken equipment and adding new infrastructure like lights, seating systems etc. Bittu also ordered revival of the old sports park maintenance committees and also said that he is ready to spend more funds for the upkeep of these parks if required.Speaking to TOI over the issue, Bittu said, “This is really shocking and sad as well that politics has been played over such a project which is directly associated with the health of the people and can play pivotal role in creating future sportspersons from the 118 villages around which these sports parks have been built. After visiting the Mullanpur-Dakha area today and checking some of these sports parks I have decided to grant Rs. 10 lakh from my MPLAD fund, out of which Rs. 6 lakh will be spent on repairing the broken equipment , especially the gyms, remaining Rs. 4 lakh will be spent on procuring lighting and seating systems for these parks"Meanwhile Bittu praised former Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali for initiating this project and said,"The sports parks project which was initiated by the previous MLA from this area needs to be appreciated and as it is an asset for the constituency its care needs to be taken at any cost and if and when required I will contribute more funds for this purpose”Bittu also added, “I also conducted a meeting of the old committee of the sports parks who were maintaining the park with their funds and support from others, but committee stopped functioning after new MLA was elected. I have asked the committee members to start their working again and they will get full support from the government and newly elected sarpanches and panches as well. From tomorrow the committee will restart its functioning and we will soon see these sports parks back to their glory days"During his visit to Mullanpur today, when MP Bittuwas informed about the issue of old bricks being used in the construction work of government hospital here, he got furious and pulled up the concerned government officials incharge of the work and Bittu called the contractor and warned him of strict action. The contractor however claimed that these were new bricks and were sourced from Abohar but he promised to not to use these and replace them with other lot.
