LUDHIANA: The members of Feroze Gandhi market traders and property dealers association met the MC Commissioner KP Brar on Tuesday at zone D office while raising the demand for introducing the hourly parking system in the market when they will hire some new parking contractors. The members claimed that market is overcrowded because people who come for work in nearby areas also park their vehicles due to which parking lots remain jam packed.As per the members of association if there will be hourly parking system, people will avoid parking their vehicles in the market for entire day. However the MC commissioner listened to their demands and assured of every possible solution.The president of association PS Gill said, “The MC should start imposing charges in the parking on hour basis like for first 2 hours Rs 10, for 4 hours Rs 30 and so on. This pattern is followed by authorities in Chandigarh and Mumbai. It will avoid rush of unnecessary people in the parking lot.” He further said Nehru Sidhant Kendra and ICICI bank should force the visitors to park vehicles within their complex instead of market. He said the illegal entry to DC complex should be closed to reduce pressure in the market as DC’s multi level parking is not even half occupied.Meanwhile the chairman of association Col (retd) Harjap Singh said marking in the parking lots for parking of vehicles should be done. The boom barriers around in and out roads to this market to regulate visitors should be installed, he said while adding that there are some additional parking spaces where parking can be done. He said space near Palli Dhabha area, allowing and marking road side slant parking for cars from Pakhowal road entry to Grewal hotel, using vacant space between Nehru Sidhant Kendra and Canal colony commercial complex on Pakhowal road. He also suggested that parking in front of Park Plaza should be paid because in the absence of parking system people abvoid parking their vehicles there and park in the market.
