LUDHIANA: Police on Thursday arrested a drug peddler after it recovered 9 Kilograms and 530 grams of opium from his car. The accused was identified as Hira Singh of Mari Noabad in Bhikhiwind of Tarn Taran district Giving details, SSP Khanna Dhruv Dahiya said that police have started a special campaign against the drug Trafficking and misdemeanors. He added that during this campaign police party was checking the suspected vehicles and persons at a check post at Sua Puli on Samrala Road in Khanna.Police said that while checking, police party saw a Car (Sunny-Nissan) bearing registration number PB46Q-0184 coming from Khanna side. It added that after seeing the police party, car driver sped the vehicle.The police party managed to stop the vehicle and overpowered it’s driver. They added that during questioning, the driver identified himself as Hira Singh.Cops said that DSP Khanna Deepak Rai was also present on the spot during the checking of the vehicle. They added that on searching the Car, police party recovered 9.350 kilograms opium from a box that included it’s weight.Police said that the accused were booked under sections 18/61/85 of NDPS Act at Khanna city one police station and he was arrested.Police officials said that it has to come notice that the accused Hira Singh brought a consignment of opium from Ashwani Kumar of Bareilley in Uttar Pradesh and was going to supply it to Hira Singh alias Fauji of Fatehgarh Sabhra in Tehsil Jira of Firozepur district and Angrej SIngh alias Harwinder Singh of Gharayala Punia in Tehsil Patti of Tarn Taran district. They added that the accused Hira Singh revealed that he had supplied the consignment of 4 kg 500 grams of opium to same persons last month.
