Special training for newly-elected panches, sarpanches

Ludhiana: The Rural Development and Panchayat Department of Punjab has chalked out a special training programme for newly elected panches and sarpanches in order to enable them to carry out their duties related to the panchayats in a smooth manner. Roop Singh, district development and panchayat officer (DDPO), Ludhiana, informed that the training programme would be held for two days in each block, with participation of every panch and sarpanch.Singh also informed that for experts who impart training to panches and sarpanches, a TOT (Training of Trainers) programme would be held at the State Institute of Rural Development (SIRD) in Mohali on February 15-16. A meeting in this regard was held in the meeting hall of Zila Parishad office in Ludhiana on Wednesday, where experts were also selected to impart the training.Giving further information, Roop Singh informed that first, the trainers would be trained, and they would further train panches and sarpanches. He also said during the course of the training, panchayats would be apprised about their powers and responsibilities, apart from Panchayati Raj Act, Village Common Land Act, maintenance of Shamlat lands, composition of Gram Sabha, its quorum, meetings, resolutions, estimates, purchase of material, use of funds, maintenance of financial accounts, records, registers, role of panchayat secretaries, and Right to Information Act-2005.The meeting was also attended by district resource person Harsukhninder Kaur, BDPO (block development and panchayat officer) of Raikot, Navneet Joshi; and BDPO (Ludhiana-1) Gurmail Singh, besides others.
