Ludhiana: A 17-year-old youth was killed and two of his colleagues injured after their motorcycle ran into a stationary truck near Pal Majra Road off Sirhind Canal on Thursday night.While the bike driver, Ashishpal, died on the spot, Gurdit Singh, 21, and Channa, 19, are under treatment.“Ashishpal, a waiter, along with Gurdit and Channa, had gone to a marriage palace in Payal. After the wedding function got over, the trio — all residents of Indira Colony — was on way home when Ashishpal rammed the bike into the parked truck near Pal Majra Road. There are no street-lights on the stretch. It seems the dark road coupled with rain blurred his vision,” said a cop.Passersby sounded the police, who called up an ambulance. While Ashishpal’s body was sent to Samrala civil hospital for the post-mortem, Gurdit and Channa were taken to a nearby hospital.Samrala police station assistant sub-inspector Sohan Singh said, “The accused will be arrested soon. The truck (PB05C-9857), which has been impounded, belongs to a local industry. Gurdit, who suffered head injuries, was operated upon at a private hospital on Chandigarh Road. Channa is admitted to Ludhiana civil hospital. Ashishpal has a brother and two sisters.”Police said the stretch was patrolled regularly, but due to the negligence of a few, such accidents took place.Police have booked the truck driver under sections 304 A (causing death due to negligence), 283 (obstructing in public way or line of navigation), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC.
