PATIALA: At a time when the Patiala municipal corporation's key project of rehabilitating roadside vendors has failed to kick off, the civic body is planning to set up 'rehri' market in the city and shift some of the vendors there. For this, it had hired consultants and formed a committee to guide and relocate registered vendors. The work of relocating vendors has been lying in limbo since then. We do not expect less than 6,000 street vendors across the city. This is important as we do not want to take any uninformed decision while relocating vendors," said Patiala MC commissioner G S Khaira.Last year in May, the municipal corporation had planned to allot spots to street vendors. We have given the survey work to another company.

The project will be completed soon, and some of the vendors will be allotted spaces there. This will also provide a big relief to the residents from traffic ," said deputy mayor Y S yogi.A private firm, in a recent survey, identified 3,200 vendors in the city and gave them identity cards."However, the firm missed many important areas where vendors were in large numbers.
