Jathedar's son caught smoking on video, sacked

JALANDHAR: Takht Patna Sahib jathedar Iqbal Singh, who is already facing a controversy after his second wife had sent a complaint to Akal Takht jathedar, alleging that he had been thrashing her, is now facing another embarrassment as his son Gurparsad Singh, also an employee at Takht Patna Sahib, was sacked after his video of smoking and drinking liquor went viral.Takht Patna Sahib managing committee president Avtar Singh Hit has confirmed the development. "Iqbal's son was working as chief accountant at Takht Patna Sahib. After seeing the video in which he was seen smoking and drinking alcohol we have sacked him," he said while speaking to TOI on Monday. He was seen puffing keenly and laughing while a voice was heard talking about entertainment.Meanwhile, on being contacted Iqbal picked up the phone but as soon as he was told that the query was from TOI about the episode involving his son, he disconnected the call and later did not pick up phone despite repeated calls.Takht Patna Sahib jathedar has been facing controversies in the past too. On June 10, 2008, he even issued an edict declaring five high priests 'mahan doshi'. The high priests included the then Darbar Sahib head granthi Gurbachan Singh (who later became Akal Takht jathedar) apart from three others. They had rejected an earlier edict issued by him on May 10, 2008, declaring former Akal Takht Jathedar Darshan Singh 'pucca tankhaiya' in a Dasam Granth-related controversy.Over two weeks back his second wife Baljit Kaur sent a complaint to Akal Takht jathedar Harpreet Singh, alleging that Iqbal used to thrash her. Claiming that he married her in 2003 by stating that his first wife had died, she alleged that later she found that it was a lie.
