LUDHIANA: The visitors to the municial corporation offices were a harried lot on Thursday when all employees remained on pen down strike and did not do even a single work.The people were asked to come again on Friday and union members of MC employees were asking clerical staff to come out of their rooms and go anywhere else. Meanwhile, the drivers continued with their hunger strike on Thursday as well and seven new drivers sat while replacing the previous ones.People who had come for payment of taxes or property tax returns also returned from there. The pen down strike was being observed by the MC employees in support of the strike being observed by the members of Punjab state ministerial services union for demands like early release of DA installments, arrears and implementation of 6th pay commission.The union members took a round in all rooms and brought the employees outside office building. A strict warning was issued to the employees if anybody will be caught working he or she will be responsible for the results. Even the employees working at Suvidha centre were also not on their seats.The rooms wore a deserted look and were locked. Some of the employees went back home while some were seen gossiping there and enjoying tea. The drivers will continue with their hunger strike unless they will be given promotions and other benefits.
