Namdhari sect members clean city roads during drive

Ludhiana: Members of the Namdhari sect carried out a cleanliness drives at Pakhowal Road on Tuesday near Dugri bridge. More than 1,000 members were present during the drive on Sunday.Harbhajan Singh, a member of the sect, said that they will continue the drive as they want the residents to minimize the use of plastic. Fourteen-year-old Ratan Singh said that he wished the city is cleaned as soon as possible and he joined the drive to help with the initiative. The sect head Satguru Uday Singh also participated in the cleanliness campaign and urged the residents to keep the city clean.Uday Singh appealed the public to segregate wet and dry waste at their homes. To lead a healthy life, it is important to keep one’s surrounding clean, he said.

He also urged the authorities to recycle all the plastic waste generated in the city as it will reduce the burden on the environment.Assistant commissioner Jasdev Sekhon, who was present during the drive, said, “We are grateful to Namdharis for they came forward to join hands with us in spreading awareness among the residents on garbage management.” He asked the residents to say no to plastic and join the drive to keep the city clean and green.On Saturday, a similar drive was carried out in Chaura Bazaar and Lal Market whereas on Sunday the members took the drive to the Field Gunj area where they also used machines to clean the roads. More than 1,000 members were present during the drive on Sunday.Harbhajan Singh, a member of the sect, said that they will continue the drive as they want the residents to minimize the use of plastic. He added that they are deciding on different locations across the city to spread awareness at all households.Sukhwinder, another Namdhari member who was on special duty, said, “We have been conducting these cleanliness drives for the past many days and will continue the effort to rope in more residents.”The drive also had school going children take part in it. Fourteen-year-old Ratan Singh said that he wished the city is cleaned as soon as possible and he joined the drive to help with the initiative. He urged the citizens to get involve and make the Swach Bharat’ dream a reality.
