Engineering students donate stationery to kids

Around seven students of Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College (GNDEC) are teaching these kids for free.These GNDEC students came together and founded the NGO. Ludhiana: Helps Welfare Society organised an event wherein its members donated stationery items to the children of Aabha Centre. Prof Jatinder Pal of GNDEC and Helps advisor Prof Ameeta Seehra and Prof Shivani Arora Abrol gave speeches and inspired the students present on the occasion. A total of 150 or more students come for studying and other co-curricular activities to us.”GNDEC principal Dr Sehijpal Singh and Dr Harmeet Kaur Waraich, principal of Nankana Sahib Public School, were the chief guests at the event. Helps stands for health, education, liberty, peace and services.

The NGO is currently working on children and women empowerment and environmental protection.NGO member Avinash said, “At present, our major project is ‘Aabha: Ek nayi kiran’, cleanliness mission, vastra anudana and ‘Utkalit: ek nayi pahal’. Under the Aabha project, we are providing free education to children of the underprivileged sections of the society.”Starting with a batch of 27 kid students, the NGO now teaches around 150 students besides providing them with stationery items, clothes and other essential material.Amarjeet, convenor of Helps, said, “Seeking more beneficiaries we sought help from Nankana Sahib Public School, Gill Road, where the officials were supportive of the initiative.
