Law students end strike as hostel timings extended

PATIALA: Students of Rajiv Gandhi National Law University on Tuesday called off their strike after their demands were met.Punjab advocate general Atul Nanda in the presence of vice-chancellor Paramjit Singh Jaswal and registrar Naresh Kumar told the students that their demands had been accepted by the university. Nanda also announced revocation of the suspended students and asked the university authorities to check the quality of food being served in the mess. Nanda visited the hostel mess and checked the quality of food. However, he felt the quality might have been maintained due to his visit and decided to visit the mess every week.He said both the boys and girls will be allowed access the library up to 12 midnight. However, the college entry timings for both girls and boys have been fixed for 8 pm. RGNLU has become the first university in Punjab to extend the hostel entry timings till 12 midnight.The university authorities will also constitute a committee and a judicial officer will be nominated by the chancellor who would investigate and submit the report over the complaint filed by students against administrative officer SP Singh. The administrative officer has been sent on leave for three months till the probe is completed.The students had boycotted exams for two consecutive days. Nanda also permitted the students to constitute a students’ representative general body and form an interim committee that would submit the draft chapter within two months to the general council of the university that will further take action.
