Mock drill held to tackle chemical emergency in factories

She informed that main aim of mock drill was to find out how much time it takes for the stakeholders and members of District Disaster Management Authority to reach a particular site in case of an emergency. She stated that more such mock drills would be organised in the coming days as well.Notably, ammonia gas leak incident had taken place in Doraha in 2015 that had claimed half a dozen lives and over 100 were hospitalized. Ludhiana: In view of widespread use of chemicals in factories, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) of the district administration organised a mock drill to tackle a chemical emergency on Thursday.The drill, conducted by a team of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) Ladhowal, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other stakeholders, was organized at Verka Milk Plant, Ferozepur Road, to make people aware as to how they should react in such conditions.The mock drill mainly aimed at creating awareness among people as well as the employees of the milk plant as to how the personnel are always on toes to tackle such a situation. Demonstrations on prevention and self-protection measures in the event of a chemical emergency were also showcased.The drill showcased skills and techniques to rescue people in case of ammonia gas leak.Ram Lal, company commander, NDRF Ladhowal, said the officials showcased as to how people can be rescued and treated in case of a chemical emergency, which in today’s case was ammonia gas leak.DRO Ludhiana Savita said all stakeholders who participated in mock drill would be judged on the basis of their response time in case of an emergency.She also appealed to the city residents to always give way to the ambulances and fire tenders on roads.
