Parties get on their toes extending help ahead of polls

To show their support, leaders of Aam Aadmi Party have started a chain hunger strike against civic authorities on the issue. Ludhiana: With parliamentary elections round the corner, political parties have become proactive in extending their support to residents. He claimed they have started cleaning with the help of super suction machines and the results will be visible in a few days.

Workers and leaders of political parties have even started organising demonstrations and hunger strikes for public issues.Residents in Dhandhari Khurd village have been forced to live in inhuman conditions since a long time. To show their support, leaders of Aam Aadmi Party have started a chain hunger strike against civic authorities on the issue. The AAP leaders had started their relay hunger strike on Saturday and it was continued on Sunday as well. They claimed on Monday they will meet the MC Commissioner Brar once and if this issue will not be resolved they will sit on hunger strike outside MC office.This area has already been making it to the headlines due to choked sewerage system. Earlier, a resident of the area had also threatened to commit suicide if authorities did not work to improve their living conditions. The area is thickly populated and the sewerage system there is in need of replacement.Akali councillor from ward number 28 Paramjit Singh Garcha claimed he had been raising this matter since almost one year and on Friday the SAD MLA Sharanjit Dhillon had also visited the area. He said earlier there were 40 sewermen in the area and now only 11 are working. Garcha claimed he had even offered to resign from his post, but Mayor did not accept his resignation. He said they will meet the MC commissioner and mayor on Monday for the last time in this regard after which they will start a demonstration.Meanwhile, residents of the village are so disturbed with the living condition that they are even refusing to vote in favour of any candidate, be it from any party. Seeta Devi, a resident from the village rued that manholes are left open and due to overflowing sewerage water, many accidents take place. She added that they will not be supporting any party in elections as none of them have done anything concrete to give them a respite.Meanwhile, zonal commissioner Surinder Pal said the village is spread across a vast area, and in some pockets, migrant population resides.
