Age is just a number for this 73-yr-old yoga teacher

Motivated by his persistent and selfless efforts, hundreds of men, women and children have adopted yoga as part of their lifestyle. A postgraduate in yoga science, Chitranjan Singh becomes upset when his pursuit is interrupted due to his research work in the subject at Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. Special sessions were being organised simultaneously for children, youth and senior citizens. Chitranjan began studying and practicing yoga as a teenager and found that he was a natural teacher. Though he had been imparting tips on yoga during his active service as a government school teacher, he started free coaching for general public shortly after his retirement.

Our Correspondent Mandi Ahmedgarh, June 15 Chitranjan Singh, a retired 73-year-old teacher, has been preaching and teaching yoga for over fifteen years to desirous residents of the local town and surrounding localities with the intent to help people live a healthy life. Motivated by his persistent and selfless efforts, hundreds of men, women and children have adopted yoga as part of their lifestyle. A postgraduate in yoga science, Chitranjan Singh becomes upset when his pursuit is interrupted due to his research work in the subject at Annamalai University, Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu. Claiming that a large number of people from all sections of society had adopted yoga as part of their lifestyle, Chitranjan said special asanas and exercises for patients suffering from various diseases were illustrated daily during the sessions at the Municipal Park on Chhapar Road. Special sessions were being organised simultaneously for children, youth and senior citizens. Chitranjan began studying and practicing yoga as a teenager and found that he was a natural teacher. Though he had been imparting tips on yoga during his active service as a government school teacher, he started free coaching for general public shortly after his retirement. Claiming that his biggest strength in the endeavor was helping people learn how to breathe ideally in comfortable and uncomfortable positions, he said: “Unfortunately, a majority of people just squash their lungs, whereas these (lungs) should be down in the navel in case of inhalation.” Singh said special sessions on yoga training would be held on the World Yoga Day.
