The bridge has been completed in the allotted 18 months by Ashoka Builders and 80 pillars have been erected for the completion of the overbridge. What is delaying the opening of the bridge are the wires of Powercom that cross the road in front of a private rice mill as the mill supplies power to Powercom through the wires and the height of the wires is only about 20 feet over the bridge and this may cause harm to high-headed vehicles like trucks and buses. Although the department and the mill had changed the supply of this 66,000 KV high-tension wires through underground route, but Powercom is yet to start supply through the underground route and clear the wires from the overbridge. When contacted, Gurpreet Singh, XEN, Transmission Lines (TL), Ludhiana, said work on the bridge was solely undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India with the help of private contractors, but they failed to work as per drawings given by their department and there were some technical snags committed by the NHAI. He said they were waiting for the faults to be rectified by the NHAI and after their removal they would clear the lines.
