Work on ROB, RUBs to begin from Monday

The 120-cr project, once completed, would provide much-needed respite from traffic congestion to city residents. The minister said tenders for the Sidhwan Canal Water Front project would be opened on June 28 and the work was expected to start shortly. In the second phase, Sidhwan Canal — from Pakhowal Road to Dugri Road — would be developed. “A total of 15 smart toilets are to be constructed in the city and work on the 14 ones is already in the process.

The 120-cr project, once completed, would provide much-needed respite from traffic congestion to city residents. While reviewing the projects under the Ludhiana Smart City Mission at the MC Zone D office today, he said the railway overbridge would be constructed from the Sidhwan Canal side towards the Hero Bakery side along Pakhowal Road over the existing railway lines. One of the rail underbriges was planned to be constructed from the Hero Bakery side towards the Sidhwan Canal side along Pakhowal Road under the existing railway lines whereas the second would connect Ishmeet Road and Rotary Club Road and Ferozepur Road and Ishmeet Road to Pakhowal Road. The minister said tenders for the Sidhwan Canal Water Front project would be opened on June 28 and the work was expected to start shortly. The project envisages landscape development of canal front in the first phase of the Smart City Project, developing a green belt, dedicated a cycling track, a playing zone, a dedicated footpath along the canal, sitting areas and wall climbing activities. In the second phase, Sidhwan Canal — from Pakhowal Road to Dugri Road — would be developed. After the meeting, Ashu visited the smart toilets site at the Leisure Valley. “A total of 15 smart toilets are to be constructed in the city and work on the 14 ones is already in the process. The smart toilets would have light-emitting diodes (LED) lights, solar panels and stainless steel toilet blocks that are easy to clean and are more hygienic,” he added. He visited the newly constructed Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Municipal Corporation Zone D and the sewerage de-silting project in the Sant Nagar area of the city. Prominent among those present in the meeting were Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu, Senior Deputy Mayor Sham Sunder Malhotra, DCC (Urban) president Ashwani Sharma, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Kanwal Preet Kaur Brar and Additional Commissioner Sanyam Aggarwal.
