IN BRIEFLudhiana: A man posing as an Army jawan committed a fraud with a woman on the pretext of selling her an air-conditioner. He even sent the victim his canteen ID card, which made her to believe that the seller was genuine. The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar of Sidhwan Bet and Harpreet Singh, alias Laddi, of Salempura village. Counterfeit notes of Rs 2,000 denomination worth Rs 1 lakh were seized from the suspect identified as Sanjiv Kumar of Dhadoli Kalan village. The suspect had concealed counterfeit notes under the seat of the Splendor bike he was riding at the time of his arrest.

Complainant Seema Rani told the police that while searching the OLX app to buy an air-conditioner she contacted a man, who claimed himself, to be an Army jawan and wanted to sell his old AC. He even sent the victim his canteen ID card, which made her to believe that the seller was genuine. “When I transferred Rs 11,200 to the suspect through Paytm, he refused to send the AC and also stopped taking my calls,” the victim alleged. TNS Two held with 9-kg poppy husk Ludhiana: The Sidhwan Bet police have nabbed two smugglers and recovered 9 kg of poppy husk from their possession. The accused have been identified as Pawan Kumar of Sidhwan Bet and Harpreet Singh, alias Laddi, of Salempura village. Investigation officer, ASI Chinderpal Singh, said acting on a tip-off, a raid was conducted at the specific place from where the accused were nabbed and narcotics recovered from them. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against the accused and further probe is on. TNS Ludhiana: Three mobile phones were recovered from three inmates of the Ludhiana Central Jail. The accused have been identified as Sunny Sood, Aslam Khan and Kulwinder Singh. Assistant Jail Superintendent Parvinder Singh said during a routine checking on the jail premises, one mobile phone each was recovered from three inmates. A case under Sections 52 A (1), Prison Act, has been registered against the inmates. TNS Ludhiana: Officials of the police Division No. 1 nabbed a man and recovered 100 intoxicant capsules from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Jagdeep Singh of Jalandhar. Investigation officer, ASI Gurmeet Singh, said during a routine patrolling near City Heart Hotel, the suspect was stopped for checking. During search of his belongings, banned medicines were recovered, he added. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered against suspect. TNS One held in fake currency racket Raikot: The Jodhan police have nabbed a racketeer, who has been dealing in illicit trade of fake currency. Counterfeit notes of Rs 2,000 denomination worth Rs 1 lakh were seized from the suspect identified as Sanjiv Kumar of Dhadoli Kalan village. The Jodhan SHO, Inderpal Singh Chauhan, said a police party arrested Sanjiv Kumar from Sarabha village on the Raikot-Ludhiana road when he was on way to deliver a consignment of fake currency notes in Ludhiana on Thursday. The suspect had concealed counterfeit notes under the seat of the Splendor bike he was riding at the time of his arrest. OC
