Earlier this year, he had brought laurels to the school by participating in the Partille Cup, world's largest youth handball tournament, which was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. SCHOOL NOTES Ludhiana: Ravinder Singh Khattra, a student of Sant Ishar Singh Ji Memorial Public School, Karamsar Rara Sahib, participated in the International Handball Tournament, organised by Bhim Sharma, secretary of Youth Sports Club, Chandigarh. It was a moment of pride for the school as he has been selected in the Indian handball team (U-18 category). Ravinder thanked his coach, Arvinder Singh, for his success. Earlier this year, he had brought laurels to the school by participating in the Partille Cup, world's largest youth handball tournament, which was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. Bird Feeding Project GMT Public School, Jalandhar bypass, took an initiative to introduce a bird feeding project today. Students of Class II were the torchbearers of the project. They took an oath to put a bowl of water and seeds on their roofs every day. Jasbir Kaur Bal, principal of the school, talked about the importance of being sensitive towards birds and nature. Van Mahotsava celebrated To make students aware about the importance of planting trees and their role in reducing global warming, Van Mahotsava was observed by the staff and students of Guru Nanak Public School, Mullanpur. A tree plantation drive was initiated by principal Ravi Kant. She guided students on how to the dig pits and plant saplings. She motivated them to plant more trees and take care of the already planted ones. The students enthusiastically participated in the drive. Blue day organised To celebrate the colour blue, Guru Nanak Public School, Birmi, organised a blue day for the students of nursery. The significance of the colour was shown through a series of activities. The tiny-tots came dressed in shades of blue and carried blue umbrellas along to enjoy the cool pleasant weather. Array of class activities such as drawing and colouring of umbrellas in scrap books, describing favourite thing of blue colour, among others were conducted. Meanwhile, a drawing competition was also organised for students of all Class I to IX. Students drew landscapes, dressing a doodle and cartoon-making. Students were judged on the basis of presentation, medium of colours and neatness in work. Principal Harjit K Dua said such such competitions gave a creative outlet to the imagination of students. Eye check-up camp Gujranwala Guru Nanak Public School, Rose Garden, in association with Shankara Eye Hospital, organised a free eye check-up camp on the occasion of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. The camp was inaugurated by Gurpreet Bassi Gogi, Councillor, Ward no 76 and newly appointed chairman of Punjab Industrial Export Corporation. Principal Gunmeet Kaur said the eye check up camp was organised with the objective to detect eye disorders among children at an early stage and to address refractive errors encountered by them. She thanked the team of doctors for a smooth and successful execution of the camp. Students also got tips to take care of their eyes. Investiture held Guru Hargobind Public Senior Secondary School, Sidhwan Khurd, held its investiture to appoint the members of administrative student council. The chief guest of the ceremony was Sukhpal Singh, DSP headquarters, Jagraon (PPS). Ravinder Singh Malhi of Class XII commerce and Karamtej Kaur of Class XII medical, were appointed head boy and head girl, respectively. Hindi extempore competition To improve oratory skills of students, an inter-house Hindi extempore competition was organised by Tagore Public School for the students of Class IX to XII. The competition consisted of two students from each house. The participants were given two minutes to think on the topic and one minute to speak without fumbling. The topics ranged from deforestation, degrading environment to issues such as misuse of internet, corruption and degrading moral values. Talent hunt organised A talent hunt was organised by Guru Gobind Singh Public School, Pakhowal Road, Daad, in the activity hall. About 150 students and 20 teachers attended the talent hunt. Gunneta Bindra, a choreographer who runs her own Kala Nikhar Academy in Lajpat Nagar, was the resource person on the occasion. About 50 students showcased their talent. The finale will be held on July 28 at The Mirage, Pakhowal Road. Gunneta took the audition of 30 students under the categories of Indian folk dance, Indian classical dance, declamation, cooking without fire and modeling. Special assembly Today was the first day of the academic session 2019-20 for Class XI at Meritorious School. A special assembly was held to welcome old and some new students. To encourage students to perform well in exams, students, who had secured merit positions in Class X, were given certificates by the school principal, Col Amarjeet Singh. Paramjeet Kaur and Rimsha Parveen, who had secured 98 per cent and 96.15 per cent, respectively, were given certificates. Besides, Inderpal Singh, who got third rank in the entrance exam of Meritorious School, was also honoured. TNS
