Traffic comes to a standstill

Every corner of the city witnessed huge traffic jams as vehicles crawled on the waterlogged streets. With minimal presence of the traffic police, the traffic situation worsened at Pavilion Chowk, Haibowal Chowk, Shastri Nagar, Mata Rani Chowk, Clock Tower, Gill Chowk, Tajpur Road, Damoria Bridge, Old Sabzi Mandi, Ghumar Mandi and Basti Jodhewal. The traffic lights were switched off at most places which worsened the traffic situation. Sunita Khullar, who had come to pick up her child from the BCM Shastri Nagar Chowk, said her Activa scooter broke down near the school and she had called a mechanic to fix it.

There were long queues of vehicles at all major intersections. The traffic lights were switched off at most places which worsened the traffic situation. Sunita Khullar, who had come to pick up her child from the BCM Shastri Nagar Chowk, said her Activa scooter broke down near the school and she had called a mechanic to fix it. “The Municipal Corporation has failed on all fronts. This is not the first time that waterlogging has caused huge inconvenience to the people. Heavy rain always creates this kind of situation in the city,” she added. Radhey Yadav, who was also stuck on a waterlogged road at Gurdev Nagar, said if this was the plight of a posh area of industrial city, what could people living in the low-lying areas expect from the Municipal authorities?
