Tax Bar Association seeks extension of ITR deadline

Tribune News ServiceLudhiana, August 22The Punjab Tax Bar Association has sent representation to Union Finance Minister Nirmla Sitharaman, seeking extension of time for filling of Income Tax and GST returns. BalKrishan Gupta, President and BR Kaushal, secretary general of the Punjab Tax Bar Association have sent representation demanding extension in filling of all kinds of income tax returns and GSTR Form 9, 9A and 9C at least by two months and five months, respectively. BR Kaushal said the GSTR-9 does not compute the actual liability of the tax payer even after filling all the columns of the return. BalKrishan Gupta said the incessant rains wreaked havoc in at least 11 states, including Punjab and entire peninsular India. Hence, it is requested to extend the due date for filing of non-audited income tax returns.

BalKrishan Gupta, President and BR Kaushal, secretary general of the Punjab Tax Bar Association have sent representation demanding extension in filling of all kinds of income tax returns and GSTR Form 9, 9A and 9C at least by two months and five months, respectively. They further demanded that the GST forms should be simplified and be made trader friendly. The form GSTR-9 (Annual Return) contains a total of six parts with 19 tables, the Goods and Services Tax Law being nascent due to number of acts, the obligors are not much equipped with the compliance of byzantine form. BR Kaushal said the GSTR-9 does not compute the actual liability of the tax payer even after filling all the columns of the return. The entire business community in the country is stuck in reconciling figures between various GST returns filed and being the first year, the taxpayers are facing hardships to reconcile with the same. BalKrishan Gupta said the incessant rains wreaked havoc in at least 11 states, including Punjab and entire peninsular India. More than 68 per cent of the country is reeling under heavy rains and flood. Therefore, it is a bit difficult for the tax payers and professionals to comply with the due date for filing ITRs, which has led to tremendous stress among the taxpaying communities in the country. Hence, it is requested to extend the due date for filing of non-audited income tax returns.
