“There should be no FIR against public representative Bains as it will suppress the voice of MLAs. I agree the DC office is not an individual’s office, it’s a public office and the DC should have also addressed the issue socially, instead of dragging it further,” said Ashu. Being an MLA, he should fight with bureaucrats on public issues but with some restraint. Use of abusive language uncalled for: BittuCongress MP Ravneet Bittu said a DC couldn’t dare misbehave with a public representative, but the use of abusive language by a public representative for a DC is wrong. Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA

Bains says he is being targeted for challenging closure report in City Centre scam case Nikhil Bhardwaj Ludhiana, September 8 After the registration of an FIR by the Batala police against LIP MLA Simarjit Singh Bains for misbehaving with Deputy Commissioner Vipul Ujwal, Bains said the FIR showed anger of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. “I am not scared of any FIR. I do not even backtrack on what I did. I stood for the cause of people and supported truth. The FIR won’t impede my efforts. I am very much at home. Come, arrest me. I won’t buckle under any pressure,” Bains told The Tribune today. Bains said the FIR was registered at the behest of the CM as he (Bains) had challenged the closure report of the City Centre scam in the High Court. Next hearing in the case has been scheduled for September 19. Bains said such FIRs would have no bearing on his character because whatever he did he did it for the people. When a leader faces an FIR for corruption or a major crime, that actually brings disrepute to his political career, he said. The LIP chief said four or five cases were registered against him every year on behalf of the government but he was acquitted in all of them. When the news of the possible arrest of Bains by the Batala police reached here, workers of LIP started gathering at the party office. Bains alleged that he did not misbehave with the DC, rather the latter misbehaved with the people who had lost their family members in the blast at a firecracker factory. FIR may set a wrong precedent: Ashu Congress Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, while talking to the Tribune, said he condemned the FIR against LIP MLA Simarjeet Singh Bains as that might set a wrong precedent of registering FIRs against public representatives whenever he/she went to bureaucrats to take up public issues. “There should be no FIR against public representative Bains as it will suppress the voice of MLAs. But I also condemn the use of abusive language by Bains and that cannot be justified. I agree the DC office is not an individual’s office, it’s a public office and the DC should have also addressed the issue socially, instead of dragging it further,” said Ashu. The minister further said MLAs like Bains should also not create hype on such issues. Being an MLA, he should fight with bureaucrats on public issues but with some restraint. If the Gurdaspur administration has lodged an FIR against Bains, then where should the public lodge an FIR against bureaucrats if they are harassed or inconvenienced due to the behavior of administrative officials? At the same time, the administration should also be given free time to deal with serious issues such as blast and their work should not be hindered by any public representative, said the minister. FIR will not tarnish my image: LIP Chief Bains said such FIRs would have no bearing on his character because whatever he did he did it for the people. When a leader faces an FIR for corruption or a major crime, that actually brings disrepute to his political career, he said. The LIP chief said four or five cases were registered against him every year on behalf of the government, but he was acquitted in all of them. Use of abusive language uncalled for: Bittu Congress MP Ravneet Bittu said a DC couldn’t dare misbehave with a public representative, but the use of abusive language by a public representative for a DC is wrong. Bains was right in raising the issue and making videos of the spot but uploading the edited videos on the social media was not fair. Bittu said Bains brought disrepute for himself by telling the DC “Eh tohade baap da office a (Does this office belong to your father)? ‘Will continue fight against corrupt bureaucrats’ These deputy commissioners are so arrogant that they have forgotten that they are public servants and they are enjoying various facilities with the taxpayers’ money. Our fight against the corrupt bureaucrats will continue so that people’s rights could be protected. Simarjit Singh Bains, MLA
